Cacao Bean Husk 1 lb

Cacao husk is the thin outer shell of the cacao bean — what’s separated from the nibs during winnowing. Light, aromatic, and full of chocolate character, it’s a versatile ingredient for creative makers and gardeners alike.

Great for:

  • Soap & cosmetic formulations
  • Scented bath blends
  • Composting & soil building
  • Cocoa-aroma tea blends

Avoid for:

  • Mulch (trust us — the mycelium wins)

  • Beer brewing (use Brewer’s Blend)

Many people use cocoa husk for handmade soaps, scrubs, and aromatic bath products. It can also be steeped to make a cacao-inspired infusion (think tea vibes, chocolate-adjacent aroma). In the garden, it shines as a compost additive — breaking down beautifully and feeding soil life.

A note from experience: cacao husk is not a good mulch. Anything more than a very light dusting tends to form an airtight fungal mat that smothers plants, shrubs, and even small trees. We love plants too much to let you learn that the hard way.

Husk is offered as-is and may include a mix of raw, roasted, organic, and conventional origin material depending on what beans are in production. If you have a specific use in mind, test small first — this is a natural product with natural variability.

The roasted version is more suitable for brewing or fragrance projects. For beer brewing, we strongly recommend our Brewer’s Blend instead — roasted husk alone brings astringency without much chocolate character.

** If you are ordering more than 10 lb of roasted husk, we strongly recommend reaching out to us first to verify we have enough in stock for your needs.

The roasted option is just that and is more suitable for brewing whether that is as a part of a blend in tea (as a straight tea it is terribly astringent).  I don't recommend it for brewing beer.  There is a distinct lack of cocoa flavor, a ton of not good astringency.  Use our Brewer's Blend for beer brewing.

All husk is packaged in bulk so if you order 5 x 1 lb you may receive one 5 lb bag.
